Reuniting children with their loved ones in 2017

The International Committee of the Red Cross in Liberia supports the Liberia National Red Cross Society activities, helps the authorities in national implementation of the international humanitarian law, and works with the armed forces for integration of the Law of Armed Conflict.

In 2017, the ICRC continued to work closely with prison authorities to improve the conditions of detention for detainees. To help restore family links in Liberia, our teams used phone calls, Red Cross messages, and reunited children with their loved ones. We also worked with political authorities and the armed forces in the promotion, implementation, and integration of international humanitarian law.

Highlights of our work in Liberia in 2017

670 phone calls were made to family members from people in 3 refugee camps
14 children were reunited with their loved ones
6,800 joint security personnel received knowledge on humanitarian principles
190 vulnerable women and girls graduated from skills trainings
