Myanmar: Helping people affected by floods – six months on
Monsoon rains, coupled with high winds and heavy rain from Cyclone Komen, caused devastating floods and landslides in several parts of Myanmar in July 2015.
Together with the Myanmar Red Cross (MRCS), we focused our relief efforts on helping people in Rakhine State, where we have a strong operational presence due to the past inter-communal violence.
Highlights of our work:
120,000 people regained access to safe drinking water
70,000 people received basic aid, such as food, mats, blankets, hygiene items, and mosquito nets
18,000 people received cash grants to resume economic activities, such as fishing and operating small businesses
7,000 people received treatment in four medical centres
1,485 people across Myanmar were registered as alive and well, and over 25 families were reunited
800 people had access to health care in rural areas |
