Protecting livestock from diseases in South Sudan

South Sudan has one of the largest cattle populations in the world. Communities and individuals' livelihoods depend daily on their cattle for survival. Decades of armed conflict continue to undermine the South Sudan's veterinary services increasing the risk of epidemics that affect the health of cattle.

To help protect animals from the diseases and strengthen the resilience of the communities affected by the armed conflict, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has vaccinated more than 550,000 head of cattle and trained 180 community health workers between January and October 2016. In this video, we find out what impact this has had and learn more about the central role that cattle play in South Sudanese society.
