The ICRC has been active in the Central African Republic (CAR) since 1983 and has maintained a permanent presence in the country since 2007. It conducts its operations in CAR through its delegation in Bangui and its sub-delegations in Bambari and Bossangoa. Thanks to this network, the ICRC is able to respond effectively to humanitarian needs in various regions of the country.
We raise awareness among all weapon bearers of the need to respect the rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
We help communities get better access to drinking water and health care. Depending on people’s level of vulnerability and needs, we provide them with food, essential household items, seed and building materials to repair homes that have been destroyed or damaged as a result of armed violence.
Most of our activities to assist people in need and restore family links are carried out together with the Central African Red Cross. We also support the National Society in strengthening its structure and operational capacities.
