Afghanistan: Reconnecting families

21-06-2013 Feature

Thousands of families in Afghanistan are separated from their relatives who are detained by Afghan authorities and international military forces. Restoring contact between these families is often challenging because most do not have the economic means to travel in order to visit their fathers, brothers or sons who are detained in different parts of the country.

The ICRC in collaboration with Afghan authorities makes it possible for these families to maintain contact with their loved ones detained at the Parwan Detention Facility in Bagram by organizing face-to-face visits and facilitating telephone calls from its offices around the country.
