ICRC President in Washington

Geneva (ICRC) - Today, 30 November, President Jakob Kellenberger of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is in Washington DC for a series of meetings with senior government officials including Secretary of State Colin Powell, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz. This follows a two-day visit to New York, where Mr Kellenberger met with numerous representatives of UN Member States.
The ICRC President travelled to the United States after recent visits to Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Russian Federation and Iran. The focus of discussion in all the countries visited was the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and the priorities for ICRC activities there.
