Bogotá: ICRC offers its services in journey of ELN members

At the request of those involved in the “Casa de Paz” initiative, which aims to give new impetus to the peace process between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN), and with the consent of the Colombian and Venezuelan governments, the ICRC offered to accompany ELN representative Antonio Garcia and ELN member Pedro Ramón Durán Delgado on 17 April from Caracas to the “Casa de Paz” in the vicinity of Medellín, Colombia.
Representatives of the Norwegian, Spanish and Swiss governments, which are facilitating the peace process, were on hand as the transfer took place, as were representatives of the Venezuelan government and Colombian nationals.
The helicopter and plane used had been made available by the “Casa de Paz” and marked with the red cross emblem.
The return journey is expected to proceed in a similar manner.
