Tajik president visits ICRC

Geneva (ICRC) – Mr Emomali Rakhmonov, the president of Tajikistan, paid an official visit to the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on 27 June.
He was received by ICRC President Jakob Kellenberger and senior officials of the organization.
Discussions during the ensuing working session focused on the situation in Central Asia from the humanitarian standpoint and on actions taken by the ICRC to meet people’s needs. Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the ICRC are governed by an agreement signed on 14 June 2003. Mr Kellenberger stressed the importance of this agreement as a further sign of the Tajik authorities'support for independent humanitarian action. The ICRC has been working in Tajikistan since 1992.
