Baku (ICRC) – The head of operations for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Pascale Meige Wagner, has completed an official visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan.

She had discussions with the defence ministers and deputy foreign ministers of both countries.

The talks focused on ICRC activities carried out in the region in connection with the Nagorny Karabakh conflict. " The situation in the region remains a concern for the ICRC, " said Ms Meige Wagner. " We wanted to explain our role as a neutral intermediary in repatriations of prisoners of war, civilian internees and human remains. "

During her visit, Ms Meige Wagner also held talks with officials from other government ministries and with the presidents of the Armenian Red Cross Society and of the Red Crescent Society of Azerbaijan.

The ICRC has been working in Armenia and Azerbaijan since 1992, assisting and protecting people and communities affected by the Nagorny Karabakh conflict.
