Independent report: expert roundtable on the protection of humanitarian personnel

03-12-2010 Report

This independent report is the outcome of a roundtable organised by the ICRC, the Australian Red Cross and the Asia Pacific Centre for Military Law held in December, 2010 at The University of Melbourne Law School.

The Roundtable brought together government policy advisors and representatives from the humanitarian sector, the armed forces, academia, think tanks and the media to discuss the increasing risks facing humanitarian personnel in carrying out their work today.  It looked at the causes and impacts of these risks from the viewpoints of the different professions or sectors represented and the identification of practical proposals to help address the problem. The event is part of a series of events in Australia and New Zealand addressing the protection of civilians. This report does not necessarily represent the views of the ICRC.
