Bangladeshi and Nepali players compete in a friendly wheelchair basketball match held on the occasion of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities on 3 December 2014. The event was organised by the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed and sponsored by the ICRC.
Bangladesh and Nepal celebrated the recent International Day for Persons with Disabilities with a friendly wheelchair basketball tournament in Dhaka.
The ICRC works with the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Bangladesh to help vulnerable people with disabilities to rebuild their lives by providing artificial limbs and other devices. At the same time, we're enabling Bangladeshi specialists to undertake internationally-recognized training, helping local organizations provide sustainable services and creating opportunities for people with disabilities through vocational training.
The ICRC is supporting the CRP's wheelchair basketball initiative. This has included provided 10 sports wheelchairs to the CRP so that wheelchair basketball players can increase their confidence and physical strength, smoothing their reintegration into society.
