Gaza: Protecting health care in conflict

"Health-care workers, facilities and transport must be respected and protected during armed conflicts, they must not be attacked or misused," says Erin O'Connor, ICRC health delegate in Gaza.

During the 2014 Gaza-Israel war, the health care system was not sufficiently protected and respected, which affected health-care workers' ability to save lives. Al-Aqsa hospital was among four hospitals that were shelled and ICRC took upon itself to repair the facility.

Health Care in Danger
is an ICRC-led project, which aims at improving the efficiency and delivery of effective and impartial health care in armed conflict and other emergencies.
