Nowhere is safe in Yemen, says Robert Mardini, the ICRC’s head of operations for the Near and Middle East, who is just back from a three-day visit to the city of Sana’a. Since violence escalated on 26 March, the city has suffered heavy damage, leaving people without food, water or electricity. Even if air strikes end, the challenges and needs will be enormous, warns Mardini.
