Libya: "Ashraf" stepping into normalcy with a new prosthetic leg

10 October 2016

Ashraf, 37, was injured in 2011 in fighting that took place in his hometown Misrata, Libya. He lost his leg after sustaining an injury caused by mortar fragments. Ashraf was first hospitalized in Tunisia where his leg was amputated. He then returned to Libya but daily life activities like going to work and playing with his children have become a struggle. A physical rehabilitation center, supported by ICRC, has given Ashraf a prosthetic leg to help him retain a sense of normalcy.
