Operational update – Situation along the Lachin Corridor

Since 19 December 2022, in its role as neutral humanitarian intermediary and in agreement with the sides, the ICRC has carried out 18 medical evacuations along the Lachin Corridor, thereby facilitating the safe passage of 60 patients in need of urgent medical care, together with their accompaniers.

The ICRC has been delivering medicine, baby formula and food supplies to health facilities and is also ensuring the continuity of emergency health and ambulance services.

On 6 January, ICRC teams distributed food and hygiene items to eight hospitals, a physical rehabilitation center, an institution taking care of more than 300 destitute elderly people, and a center supporting children from socially vulnerable families. On 30 January, the ICRC started distributing food parcels and hygiene boxes to pregnant women.

As this situation has led to some families being separated, the ICRC has facilitated the transfer of 95 people across the Lachin Corridor since the beginning of January, in agreement with the sides and based on the wishes of the concerned family members.

Present in the South Caucasus since 1992, the ICRC stands ready to act as a neutral intermediary and assist in addressing humanitarian issues.
