The people of eastern Ukraine need more help to rebuild their lives

14 April 2015

The ICRC is appealing for an additional CHF 26 million to help people whose lives have been destroyed by fighting in eastern Ukraine. This will bring our total budget for Ukraine to CHF 72 million. Many people are still displaced, either inside Ukraine or in neighbouring countries.

Those who return often find their homes destroyed and are trying to survive with no regular sources of food or other supplies. Mines and unexploded ordnance are an ever-present danger. Homes for the elderly are running out of food, as residents are no longer receiving incomes. Laurent Corbaz heads ICRC operations in Europe and Central Asia. He outlines the situation and the ICRC's response.
