E-briefing: Sexual violence in armed conflict

Sexual violence has been, and to a large extent continues to be, shrouded in silence. However, its prevalence and horrific toll on individuals and societies, as well as the dynamics behind it, have been progressively better understood over the last two decades. This interactive summary intends to contribute to the discussion on how to further improve access to and quality of services to victims, while also putting in place effective prevention strategies. In that respect, it echoes the idea that the fight against sexual violence in armed conflict requires a multidisciplinary effort, bringing together expertise from areas such as health, political science, gender studies, history, law and military ethics.
