Sustainable development at the ICRC, annual report 2014
This is the ICRC's third sustainable development annual report. It provides an update on progress made in 2014 on the organization's Framework for Sustainable Development, which was adopted in 2011.
In 2014, more and more ICRC units, divisions and delegations expressed an interest in the issue of sustainable development. The number of delegations working on sustainability increased from 11 to 14, with more than 100 staff members agreeing to get involved. These volunteers work in various units and divisions. They spend one to two hours per month studying, developing and promoting sustainable practices. This
small amount of time makes a big difference.
Several innovative ways of using natural resources or managing waste were successfully tested and put into place at the delegations. These initiatives, which were done in partnership with academic institutions and private-sector companies, are described in this report.
