These guidelines on coordination and information-exchange mechanisms for the search for missing migrants offer recommendations and examples from a wide range of existing practices on how to design efforts to clarify the fate and whereabouts of migrants who have gone missing along migratory routes. They propose a multi-stakeholder model, with states at its centre, in which cooperation is sought with a broad range of actors, such as regional and international organizations, non-governmental and civil society actors, and families of missing migrants. Emphasising the critical role of data protection and consent, the document covers both the collection and centralisation of information at national level, and the key elements of transnational search mechanisms.
