Colombia: river boat health care "From the Field" series

After nearly half a century of conflict, the villagers living on the banks of the Rio Caguan in southern Colombia are cut off from basic health care. Diseases which should be minor rapidly become life-threatening. In an emergency, people are left to cope as best they can. Known and accepted by both sides in the conflict, the ICRC regularly travels 400 kilometres up this remote river, taking doctors and nurses to the aid of people in extreme need.
