London UK: Training on international humanitarian law
17-18 May 2014. A two-day training session organized jointly by the ICRC, British Red Cross, and Muslim Charities Forum to provide representatives of Islamic NGOs working in the humanitarian and development sectors an overview of the basics of international humanitarian law.

The two-day training session will be led jointly by Jamie Williamson, ICRC Legal Advisor, and Claire Clement and Gilles Thal Larsen, International Law Advisers, British Red Cross.
Participants will learn about the basic principles of international humanitarian law (IHL) and cover a range of areas including:
- Armed forces and non-state armed groups
- The Red Cross and Red Crescent emblems
- Different types of conflict
- Detention and internment
- Humanitarian access and the law
- Contemporary challenges for IHL
Participants will also examine concrete examples of challenges faced by humanitarian organizations in conflict zones and how to address them.
