Myanmar: has the ICRC been able to re-visit Aung San Suu Kyi?
Yes. The latest visit took place on 6 September 2003, at her place of detention. Delegates spoke with her for about an hour and gave her two Red Cross messages from her sons. During this visit, Aung San Suu Kyi was found to be well and was not on hunger strike.
This was the second time that the ICRC had seen Aung San Suu Kyi since she was arrested at the end of May; the first visit took place on 28 July. These are part of its current series of visits to people detained following the violent events of 30 May.
The ICRC began visiting people detained in Myanmar in 1999.
