Two years ago some 500,000 people in Central Mindanao fled their homes to escape clashes between government troops and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. The ICRC, alongside other organizations, assisted them by distributing relief goods, installing water systems and latrines, and supporting neighbouring health facilities. Following the ceasefire in 2009, most displaced families gradually went back – but not those who became destitute. An overview of ICRC activities in the Philippines in October 2010.
