In conflict zones the world over, health-care workers come under fire as they treat the sick and wounded. It is not just their lives that are at risk, but also the lives of the casualties they treat. Health-care workers must not be attacked: it’s a matter of life and death.
This 30 second TV spot shows health-care workers struggling to tend the sick and wounded on the battlefield as the conflict rages. It contrasts fighters using guns and tanks to defend themselves with medical personnel who have no such shield. Powerful scenes of health workers preparing to treat the wounded are intercut with fighters preparing for battle. The spot ends with a call to fighters not to attack health-care workers – it’s a matter of life and death, for them as well as the casualties they treat.
This spot supports the ICRC-led Health Care in Danger initiative, which aims to improve the security and delivery of health care in today's conflicts.
