Over 2000 stranded foreigners have been evacuated from the port of Misrata on an ICRC-chartered ship. At risk from the ongoing bombing and fighting, as well as very poor living conditions, these migrant workers were desperate to leave Misrata. The ICRC, with the help of the Libyan Red Crescent, evacuated them to Egypt and other safe places from where the International Organization of Migration transferred them to their respective countries, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
