United Kingdom: ICRC president describes 2013 challenges
ICRC president Peter Maurer sees 2013 bringing fresh challenges in our mission to assist and protect people in conflict. In an interview during his visit to London Mr Maurer suggests where the ICRC's work will most be needed in 2013, and underlines how important a neutral and independent approach is to reaching people who need help. Mr Maurer expressed concern at attacks on health care workers and facilities and the impact this has on access to treatment. Mr Maurer emphasised his admiration for the work of ICRC staff and Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers who he has seen in action during his visits to Syria, Afghanistan, Mali and elsewhere.
