Nagorny-Karabakh conflict: five azerbaijani prisoners released under ICRC auspices
25-07-1995 News Release 95/34
Geneva (ICRC) - On 25 July 1995, the Nagorny Karabakh authorities released five Azerbaijani prisoners held in connection with the conflict that has afflicted the region since 1988. The release took place under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). As in previous similar operations, ICRC delegates based in Stepanakert (Nagorny Karabakh) accompanied the released prisoners to the front line, where they were received by other delegates based in Barda (Azerbaijan), in the presence of the authorities. The delegates had previously been able to speak individually with each of the captives to make sure, in particular, that they had freely chosen their destination.
The ICRC welcomes this release and very much hopes that all the people still held in connection with the Nagorny Karabakh conflict will soon regain their freedom.
