ICRC support for hospitals in Najaf

30-08-2003 News Release 03/61

Baghdad/Geneva (ICRC) – Following the devastating attack in the holy city of Najaf, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has delivered urgently needed surgical equipment and medical items to the hospitals in that city. The ICRC stands ready to respond to further needs.

The ICRC is appalled and shocked by the increasing number of civilian victims of indiscriminate attacks in Iraq, which negate the basic principles of humanity and are serious violations of international humanitarian law. It expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
