ICRC: new member of the Committee

Geneva (ICRC) – At its meeting on 21 September 2006, the Assembly of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) co-opted Jenö C. A. Staehelin as a new member of the Committee. This brings the membership of the Committee to 17.

Jenö Staehelin comes from Basel. He holds a doctorate in law from Bern University and a master’s degree in law from Harvard Law School. As a career diplomat, he served as Swiss ambassador in Japan and was Switzerland’s first permanent representative to the United Nations in New York.

Mr Staehelin will take up his duties as a member of the Committee on 1 November 2006.
