Humanitarian crises are becoming increasingly frequent worldwide, with the devastating effects of violence, armed conflict and natural disasters leaving many hopeless, helpless and overwhelmed. Meanwhile, cyber-attacks and harmful information can further disrupt our understanding of global events.
On January 7, 2025, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Photo Elysée, museum for photography in Lausanne, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) jointly inaugurated the “Dialogues On Humanity” contemporary art exhibition in Beijing's 798 Art District.
The exhibition aims to enable people to take a step back, to think and feel about the dilemmas facing the world today, and to provide a space for exploring humanitarian issues. The opening ceremony was attended by over 60 distinguished guests, including representatives from embassies, media, academia, the art and culture sectors, international organizations, and the Red Cross Movement.

Chantal Delli, Deputy Head of Mission of the Swiss Embassy in Beijing, highlighted in her opening speech that “Dialogues On Humanity” offers a moment for reflection in the context of global humanitarian crises. “The photographs tap into the powerful, universal language of imagery, encouraging us to reflect thoughtfully on humanitarian action. Rather than providing ready-made solutions, they evoke new and unexpected reflections and emotions, inviting us to see the world from a fresh perspective.” she said.

“The principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence are not just abstract concepts; they are the lifelines of our humanitarian actions.
