International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC): Management of the Dead under Islamic Law - Article

03 May 2021

Religions, traditions and cultural practices influence the ways in which human remains are managed. In Islam, human dignity is a right given by God to all people, who are referred to in the Qur’an as God’s successors on earth and entrusted with the responsibility of ‘imrāh alarḍ (roughly translated, creating civilisation on earth). Regardless of whether they are dead or alive, the dignity and respect required includes the human body, created by God in the perfect shape.
