Israel and the Occupied Territories: ICRC calls for immediate protection of civilians in Jenin

Jerusalem (ICRC) - We are extremely concerned by the alarming intensification of armed violence in Jenin over the last two days. Each passing minute of this ongoing violence poses a danger to lives, homes, essential services, and infrastructure.
News release 04 July 2023 Israel and the occupied territories

Civilian lives and property must be respected and protected. Israeli Security Forces (ISF) must ensure the population in Jenin have unimpeded access to health services, shelter, food, and water. Ambulances and first responders must have unhindered access to wounded people and be able to provide emergency care without putting their own lives at risk.

Spiraling levels of violence in the first six months of 2023 have led to heightened tensions and a worrying deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the West Bank.

Immediate efforts are needed to end the prevailing violence.

The staff and volunteers of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) have been responding to the urgent humanitarian needs. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is supporting these efforts through coordination of access and will continue to provide assistance as needed.
