Jordan: ICRC response to needs from January to March 2017
With the Syrian conflict entering its seventh year, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Jordan is keeping up its efforts to assist Syrian refugees and communities hosting them, while providing logistical and training support to other delegations in the region.
Between January and March 2017, the ICRC, together with the Jordan Red Crescent Society (JRCS), delivered food and hygienic items to 18,000 Syrians and Jordanians residing in five southern governorates. In Mafraq and Madaba governorates, it provided monthly cash assistance to 9,785 Syrian refugees to help them cover their daily expenses.
Facts and Figures:
- Provided 60،000 ready-to-eat meals, hygienic items, winter clothes and shoes to people stranded in the Ruwayshid transit site, with support from JRCS volunteers.
- Completed the rehabilitation works in Foarah and Bushra water pumping stations in Irbid governorate, for the benefit of more than 100،000 Jordanians and Syrians.
- Provided 1028 medical consultations to people stranded in the Ruwayshid transit site.
- Individually followed-up of 521 detainees during 17 visits to 14 detention places.
- Organized training sessions on the Law of Armed Conflict at the Royal Jordanian Command and Staff College for 120 officers representing 17 countries.
