This delivery is a vital humanitarian step towards addressing the needs of people affected by the conflict in Taiz. It provides much-needed support to health facilities that have long been under strain and are now facing extreme pressure due to ongoing fighting.
“For patients with severe injuries or critical medical conditions, regardless of where they live or which side of the front line they find themselves on, timely access to medical care can be a matter of life or death,” said Christine Cipolla, ICRC head of delegation in Yemen.
In recent weeks, the ICRC has delivered emergency medical supplies to several hospitals on the front lines, including facilities near Taiz city, despite significant difficulties reaching areas heavily affected by fighting. They include Taiz Al Rahidah Hospital, Taiz Military Hospital, Hayfan Hospital, Taiz Central Hospital, Taiz Demnat Khadir PHC, Al-Dumay Al-Ahkum Hospital and Taiz Health Office.
“We urge parties to the conflict to continue facilitating safe and sustained access so that impartial humanitarian aid can reach people in need, wherever they are,” Cipolla said.
“Health facilities, as well as the wounded and the sick must be protected and medical personnel allowed to continue their work.”
