As a humanitarian organization with a workforce of over 20,000 staff members active in over 100 countries, it is not uncommon for the ICRC to receive, from time to time, requests in relation to the composition of the ICRC workforce, broken down by nationality. Specifically, the ICRC routinely receives questions from ministries of foreign affairs, permanent missions, embassies and consulates regarding the number and/or the identity of staff members who are nationals of the requesting state. Since answers to these questions often require transferring personal data, this document aims to help delegations and headquarters staff respond to such requests, ensuring that the answers provided remain fully compliant with the ICRC Rules on Personal Data Protection.
