ICRC at SOFEX 2026: Promoting Respect for IHL and the Protection of Civilians
Amman - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) took part in the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference, SOFEX 2026, in Aqaba, southern Jordan, held under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces.
The exhibition provided an opportunity to engage with more than 500 visitors, including representatives of armed and security forces and companies developing military technologies, on respect for international humanitarian law (IHL) in military operations and reducing the impact of armed conflict on civilians.
The ICRC’s booth offered a space to discuss the humanitarian and legal challenges posed by new technologies, including autonomous weapon systems, and the importance of protecting civilians in the development and use of weapons. Visitors also explored humanitarian work in conflict settings through an immersive virtual reality experience.

This engagement forms part of the ICRC’s ongoing dialogue with those who develop and use the means of warfare, to promote respect for IHL and strengthen protection for people affected by armed conflict.
