Ratification of the Protocols Additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949 by the Republic of Nicaragua

On 19 July 1999, the Republic of Nicaragua ratified the Protocols additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol I) and relating to the Protection of Victims of Non-International Armed Conflicts (Protocol II), adopted in Geneva on 8 June 1977.
The Protocols will come into force for the Republic of Nicaragua on 19 January 2000.
This ratification brings to 155 the number of States party to Protocol I and to 148 those party to Protocol II.
