Philippines: Red Cross assistance reaches typhoon victims in worst-hit regions


On the morning of 4 December, typhoon Bopha (also known as Pablo) hit the region of Davao Oriental, on the eastern coast of Mindanao Island in the Philippines. The full extent of the disaster is gradually emerging, but the scale of the damage is hampering efforts to help the survivors. Cynthia Lee, ICRC communication coordinator in Manila, speaks to her colleague Wilson Mondal in Davao Oriental. He gives an update on the situation, explains what people need right now and describes how the ICRC and the Philippines Red Cross are helping.
