ICRC President pays official visit to European Union

Geneva (ICRC) - The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mr Jakob Kellenberger, has completed a two-day visit to Brussels.

His engagements included meetings with MrJavier Solana, the Secretary-General/High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Mr Poul Nielson, the Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, and several senior officials. At the invitation of its Chairman, Ambassador Anders Bjurner of Sweden, Mr Kellenberger also addressed the members of the European Union Council's Political and Security Committee.

The main purpose of the visit was to explore possibilities for further development of the already close relations between the European Union and the ICRC by maintaining a regular dialogue at different levels.

    

Mr Kellenberger was accompanied by the head of the ICRC delegation in Brussels, Mr Thierry Germond.
