ICRC vice-president ends official visit to Saudi Arabia

Geneva / Kuwait (ICRC) – Olivier Vodoz, vice-president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has concluded a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia, where he attended the Second Saudi Conference on Voluntary Work organized by the Saudi Arabian Red Crescent Society.

During his visit, Mr Vodoz met with His Royal Highness Prince Saud Al-Faisal, minister of foreign affairs, and His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz, president of the Saudi Arabian Red Crescent Society.

Mr Vodoz's visit to Saudi Arabia provided an opportunity to update the authorities on the ICRC's humanitarian work in general, and in the Arab world in particular, as well as on the humanitarian challenges the organization is facing.

During his meeting with the president of the Saudi Arabian Red Crescent Society, Mr Vodoz stressed how much importance the ICRC attached to its cooperation with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in its efforts to alleviate the suffering of conflict victims.

Mr Vodoz praised the constructive and frank dialogue between the ICRC and the Saudi authorities and Saudi Arabian Red Crescent Society on a range of issues. He reiterated the ICRC's firm commitment to neutral and independent humanitarian action on behalf of people affected by armed conflicts and other situations of violence throughout the world.
