Yemen: ICRC calls for better access to civilians affected by continuing violence

03 July 2015

The humanitarian situation in Yemen is catastrophic following three months of fighting. People are struggling to get basic services across the country amid severe shortages of food, electricity and fuel. Antoine Grand, head of the ICRC delegation in Yemen, recently returned from the northern city of Saada where he witnessed shocking levels of destruction.

Antoine Grand also speaks of the very serious humanitarian situation in Aden where the ICRC is helping people on both sides of the frontlines despite the ongoing fighting. Aid efforts are frequently hampered in Yemen due to the restrictions imposed by the parties in various areas, but the ICRC teams are trying hard to reach all people in need.
