Strengthening international humanitarian law
Between 2012 and 2015, the ICRC undertook two major consultation processes on strengthening legal protection for victims of armed conflict. These two processes have since moved into a new phase pursuant to Resolutions 1 and 2 of the 32nd International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. The focus of the first is on strengthening legal protection for persons deprived of their liberty in relation to armed conflict. The second is devoted to strengthening IHL by enhancing the effectiveness of IHL compliance mechanisms.
