The ICRC has been active in Papua New Guinea for 15 years, supporting the Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society and providing humanitarian assistance to victims of tribal fighting in the country’s highlands.

Our work in Papua New Guinea

With a population of 11 million people in 24 provinces, Papua New Guinea is home to more than a thousand tribes with over 860 languages together with a variety of cultures and traditions.The ICRC has been providing humanitarian assistance in the country for the past 15 years, operating out of three main offices (Port Moresby, Mount Hagen and Buka in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville).

Our main activities are in Mount Hagen. They focus on raising awareness of international humanitarian law and providing economic security to vulnerable people and mental health & psychosocial support to families of missing people in Bougainville.
