Syria: a mission to save lives
23-03-2012 Film Ref. V-F-CR-F-01121-W
Fighting in Al-Zabadani (50 kilometres north-west of Damascus) resulted in hundreds of families fleeing to safety in Bludan, Madaya and Buqqin. The Syrian Arab Red Crescent, working closely with the ICRC, sent humanitarian aid to the displaced.
The host communities provided warehouses to store the aid, and set up medical posts to treat the sick and the wounded. Some of the wounded were evacuated to a Damascus hospital and returned the next day. There were three separate missions that lasted three days each in Bludan, Madaya and Buqqin, respectively. They began on 11 February and ended on 25 February with a few breaks in between operations.
