Caracas (ICRC) – The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, is making a five-day visit to Venezuela from 6 to 10 April.
Maurer will view the ICRC's activities in the country, speak with people in need and with those affected by armed violence, and meet with authorities, members of the civil society and Red Cross Movement partners.
During the visit, Maurer will re-affirm the ICRC's commitment to the people of Venezuela, following the organization's upscale of operations in the country.
The ICRC is concerned by the severe impact that the current situation has on Venezuelans, particularly those who lack access to basic services as well as migrants and their family members left behind.
The ICRC has been present in Venezuela since 1966, working in support of the Venezuelan people by providing neutral, impartial and independent humanitarian assistance. Currently the organization has 98 staff in the country.
