The ICRC has been present in Iraq since 1980, conducting protection activities and providing assistance to those severely affected by consequences of various cycles of the conflict.

Detainees have improved access to health care following the technical support and donation of medical equipment in 14 places of detention across Iraq.

Detainees have enhanced their living conditions through the distribution of hygiene and bedding items, in coordination with the prisons authorities, in 19 PoDs.

Red Cross Messages were exchanged between separated family members, mostly between detainees and their relatives. Additionally, the fate and whereabouts of 343 missing persons were clarified.

Families of missing persons were assessed to benefit from legal, psychosocial and material support, while 43 families received national IDs, 217 more benefitted from legal advice.

Persons with physical disabilities received physical rehabilitation services, including 1,881 protheses, 6,183 orthoses and 28,740 physiotherapy sessions.

Sets of human remains from the Iraq-Iran War were exchanged under the auspices of the ICRC.

People, including families of missing persons and persons with physical disabilities have strengthened their livelihoods thanks to cash assistance for agriculture/ livestock activities or small businesses.

Individuals benefited from the ICRC's support to IRCS water activities in conflict and climate change-affected areas of Iraq.

People have benefitted from 77 Health Care in Danger (HCiD) awareness sessions on managing hostile behaviour in hospital settings, delivered by the IRCS, with support from the ICRC and the Norwegian Red Cross, to health facilities and affected communities across Iraq.
