The delegation was welcomed by Balthazar Staehelin, the ICRC’s deputy director-general. Mr Staehelin acknowledged Ratu Epeli’s long years of service as a volunteer for the Fiji Red Cross Society and his steadfast support for the society.

The recent opening of Fiji's permanent mission in Geneva will further strengthen humanitarian dialogue between the country and the ICRC, particularly in connection with peace-keeping and with efforts to fight climate change and rising sea levels.
