This statement explores the humanitarian and legal issues pertaining to abortion for women and girls who become pregnant as a result of rape in armed conflicts. Given at the occasion of the 2013 Bruges Colloquium,it addresses notably the question of whether a "right to abortion" exists in contemporary international law and highlights the ICRC's humanitarian response in favor of women and girls who become pregnant following rape.
