Moot court competition on IHL

The following was issued as a press release by the ICRC delegation in Armenia on 24 February 2006
Yerevan – The second national moot court competition on international humanitarian law (IHL) for law students from Armenian universities was held from 21 to 24 February 2006 in the resort town of Tsakhadzor.
The competition was organised by the ICRC with cooperation of Armenian Association of International Law (AAIL). Six participating teams composed of three students and a coach came from the Yerevan State University (YSU), the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, the French University of Armenia and the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defence.
During the event, participants were placed in a situation of imaginary conflict in which they had to take appropriate decisions as representatives of government, rebels, peace keeping forces and humanitarian organisations. Level of performance of the teams was appraised by the jury, comprised of two ICRC and one YSU representatives.
The team of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University " MIR " was announced the winner of the competition. As it was previously agreed, the winners will participate in the future in a similar event, organised by the ICRC regional delegation in Moscow.
