ICRC president visits the United States

Geneva (ICRC) – Jakob Kellenberger, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has arrived in Washington for talks with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, National Security Advisor Steven Hadley, Deputy Secretary of Defence Gordon England and other senior officials.
Talks will focus on detention-related matters and on the humanitarian situation in some of the ICRC’s main areas of operations, including Sudan's Darfur region, Somalia, Israel and the Palestinian territories, Iraq and Afghanistan.
During his visit, Mr Kellenberger will also meet with the secretary general of the Organization of American States, José Miguel Insulza, and with the leadership of the American Red Cross, which will be celebrating its 125th anniversary on 21 May.
